Budapest Lights up the Danube

The twin cities of Buda and Pest light up the Danube River as it flows through Hungary.

Now I invite you to join me for a short cruise down the Danube River to view Budapest at night. The most prominent feature of the waterfront is the Parliament buildings.

Across the river is St. Anne Church. St. Anne church is near the Calvinist church in Batthyány Square. This is the old market square.

After  cruising down to the Margaret Bridge, the boat turns toward Buda and heads back upstream. On the left is part of the chain bridge, the Buda Castle, Royal Palace and National Museum are on the hill at the left. The Calvinist Church is on the right.

Here is a closer picture of the Royal Palace, once home of the ruling Habsburgs. Now it is the National Museum.

Farther up the river is the Technical University. I could not remember all of these place names from the cruise. I had do some searching through maps and other online pictures.

At the end of the cruise is Gellert hill. At its base is the Gellert Hotel, and at the top is the Liberty Statue. The bridge across the Danube at this point has been renamed to the Liberty Bridge. I will write more about bridges in another post.

Here is a closer look at the statue. Below the cross on the left is a church built into a cave in the side of the hill.

If you had the liberty to go anywhere, where would you go today?
