Views of the Melk Abby from the Pielach folyó
It was a short visit to the Abby. Above taken at 11:15 as we pull into our dock on the left. Below taken at 2:40 p.m. looks a little farther up the canal at the town below the Abby. Noticed how the light has changed from the morning with the light behind the Abby, to the evening where the sun will be setting within one hour.
Actually this is not the Danube River it is the Pielach folyó (Pielach river). It runs parallel to the Danube and empties into the Danube at Melk.
The Abby sits on a hill above the town.
The balcony offers some wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Look for those in another post.
We took a bus to the top of the hill and then walked down into the Abby.
It is possible to get here by car as well as riverboat. What is your preferred method of travel?
