Ajaccio, Corsica

Ajaccio is the capital and the largest city of Corsica. It is home to 65 thousand of the 360 thousand residents of Corsica. It is located in the bay of Ajaccio which is part of the gulf of Ajaccio. There are many tales about where it got its name. A Greek tradition says it was founded by a legendary Greek hero Ajax. Another story says it comes from the Greek word agathè meaning “Good Luck” or for sailors, “Good Harbour”.

An earlier post shows a bit of the harbour at dawn when we were mooring, then heading off into the hills for some sightseeing. The next pictures and video are from the return trip the port.

It is always good luck to have a gas station close to the marina and so many other services are here too like a bakery, a sandwich shop, and even a company that will help you set up your own business.

Back at the ship, the coat of arms on the front of our ship caught my attention so I had to take a closer look to get a good picture. One of the port guards didn’t like what I was doing and shooed me away.

  1. More Corsica! How beautiful was that! I especially liked all of the different views of the mountains. It looked wild and I could hear it calling me and saying, “Alice, you know you want to visit me!” And, yes, I do! Blog on, Doug!

  2. Oo! Mountains, water, a marina, seaside commodities, boats, lots of views! Thanks, Doug– blog on!

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
