Over the summer there have been many varieties of birds visiting the feeding station. Some are able to share the space, others pick up what has fallen to the ground and others just wait their turn for the next stall to be vacated.
The chickadee will quickly fly in, grab a seed and fly out to a nearby branch to hold the seed against a branch with one foot and peck the seed apart with the beak.
The Rose Breasted Grosbeak is an infrequent visitor. His visit must have prompted me to get the camera off of the shelf.
The Red Winged Blackbird usually helps himself from the feeder.
The White Crowned Sparrow was another of the infrequent visitors. It is a little larger than the numerous and various finches that visit and the white crown was distinctive. Of course, I saw it and photographed it before I knew what is was. I have a Peterson Field Guide book that I use to put a name to these birds.
The next two pictures will need no introduction. I have seen three young ones with the adults this year. The parents still feed the young ones even though the youngsters can fly well and are as large as the adults.
Do you have a favourite bird or one that visits you often?
