In April of 2012 Costa Cruise lines had some unfortunate issues with a couple of their ships. We had booked a cruise up into the Red Sea to see the ruins of the ancient city of Petra. Costa re-routed some of its ships and canceled the cruise we had booked. This was done on short notice and we already had flights booked with a week stay in UK on the way over. Costa offered us credit for another cruise with the restriction that it had to be within a few weeks. The trip we chose was from Venice to various ports in the Adriatic sea. Bari was our first stop.
In the map, Venice is at the top left. Bari is marked with an orange arrow. It is on the heel of the boot of Italy. This is the Puglia region of Italy and Naples and Bari are the #1 and #2 economic centers of the region. The city population was 326,800 in 2015, and the metropolitan area is about 1.3 million.
The best way to enjoy the city is by walking. You can walk through the old town or along the seaside promenade.
The residential places surrounding the old city were rebuilt in the 1960s to 1990s. Within the city, there is a mix of older and more modern.
Located at a latitude of 41 degrees north, about equal to Chicago or New York, The daily temperatures in April average 55 F ( 12 C). It was cooler and cloudy when we visited, notice the coats.
The Teatro Margherita, from the early 1900s, has an interesting and controversial history. It was extensively restored in 2019 and used as an exhibition hall.
The trees along this beautiful street are beginning to regrow their leaves to provide some welcome shade in the hotter summer months.
Beautiful photos! Bari sounds like an interesting place to visit. Thanks for sharing.
come back soon, there are more posts coming and maybe a video.
Thank you for taking me on a photographic trip! I love everything about the photos and the area! We went to Rome and Florence years ago but have always wanted to visit Naples where my hubby’s family is from.
