A town built on steep cliffs with tall buildings, narrow streets and even narrower alleyways, calls for portrait formatted pictures, especially the videos. I have saved the vertical formatted videos from the previous post to show here. They are best viewed on a cell phone or a tablet but by changing the zoom or text size on a desktop, you will be able to see more of the video at once.
Although the funicular takes up most of the way up to the center of the island, we still have to walk up stairs to get to the Piazzetta de Capri.
As for the videos, here is how I change them to vertical format.
The narrow alleyways and shops side-to-side almost makes this feel like an indoor mall except for the steps up and down.
The streets have wider storefronts but the streets are still narrow. Not all streets are wide enough for a bus but there is a bus service to the other town called Anacapri.
You may have noticed the Prada shop and another famous Italian brand is Ferrari.
If you saw the previous post, you will know that the cliff views are breathtaking.
Watch for the funicular coming up the hill in this next video.
A comment from a previous post mentioned how much they liked the tiled back yard. I reminded me of another impressive tile display I saw but was not sure if I should show it. Italians are well known for their tile work as are many other Mediterranean countries. Another point I should make is that public washrooms in Europe often have an entrance fee. Usually about 0.50 euros to take a “P”. (not pesos, pennies, or pounds) It also helps the local businesses when you buy something just to get some change for the bathroom. When I ask at the end of each post “Where do you want to go today” this is not what I have in mind.
This most visited site, conveniently located near the entrance to the funicular, was probably upgraded when the funicular was last updated in 2018. The funicular began operation in 1907 and has been updated a few times.
On the ride up, I tried to take pictures out of the side window but there were too many things passing close to the side of the car to make a pleasing video. On the way down, however, I was first in line and was able to get a view over the operators shoulder out the front window and to the side as well. It is interesting how it operates with two trains and a short passing loop in the middle. I think you will find this video interesting.
Finally back down at the harbour and seated in the ferry, I offer one last look at the island as we say farewell until next time.
Beautiful City and the Stores were fun to share with my son who said he would like to visit them in person. Be safe and have a wonderful week.
