From the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino, Italy it is a forty five minute ride to the port if the traffic is moving well. By mid afternoon, we were in our room on the Oceania Marina cruise ship, had had lunch on board and I was on the balcony and upper decks taking pictures of the port. It is not the first time I have been to this port, but is the first time I have travelled with the Oceania line.
This is what it looks like on a Saturday afternoon in the last week of October. The pictures in the gallery below can be seen in more detail. (full size) if you click on them.
Would you like to have an apartment with a balcony overlooking the ships in the Mediterranean Sea? The breakwater helps to keep the harbour water calmer. Tug boats work in the harbour to help the larger ships dock and leave the port. There are ferry boats to take passengers and vehicles to other port cities and islands in the sea.
There are also the cruise ships which use this port as the closest port to visit all the sights of Rome.
What do you think this building will be used for when the construction is done? Maybe a restaurant or an office for the port authority to watch over the comings and goings of the traffic in the harbour.
There is a lounge chair waiting for you and a friend on the sun deck. Can you dream of you and a friends relaxing on a cruise around the ports of the Mediterranean Sea?

If you would like to see pictures of the sights to see around Rome, Italy, I have several posts from July 2017.
Here is a link to one of them and the “Previous” and “Next” buttons at the bottom of each post will take you to others. https://jarvie.ca/colosseo
Ok, Doug, since you asked… I do NOT like scrolling down and only seeing 1/2 the page with your content. Your sidebar on the right is way to wide for my liking.
With that out fo the way, I always love, love, love your photos of your journeys! Have you thought about publishing a book of your travels? It would be a fantastic coffee table book!
And wrapping it up with a question… Have you ever posted about the equipment you use? Are you Team Nikon or Team Cannon (or some other team?) What lens are in your collection? How many cameras do you use when you travel? This stuff geeks me out!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comments Paul. I may have to find another theme to get control of the sidebar width. My work around is to increase the size of the text and the side bar size changes. at 200% the side bar disappears. Unfortunately the size of the pictures change too and more scrolling is required. That applies to a desktop landscape view.
On a cell phone, or tablet, the sidebar does not show up on the main display unless you tap on the hamburger symbol in the top right. (three horizontal bars)
Can you recommend any themes that might give me more control and still allow for large pictures and adjust for the platform it is being displayed on?
I have learned to travel lighter. This month the pictures are all from an iPhone and some of the videos are from a GoPro. Editing and resizing for the web/blog are done in Lightroom. Sometimes I grab a frame from a video to use as a picture, like a featured image for the post.
The videos are assembled and resized with Davinci Resolve.
Thank you for taking us to Rome. Even though Italy is my neighbor country, I have never visited Rome. The port looks impressive!
PS: I think you smuggled some extra letters into Fiumicino Airport š
Hi Tamara. Thanks for the comment and spell check. (It is fixed now.)
There are many interesting places in Italy, have you visited any of them?
Pure beauty once again. We only visited Rome on land but I’d love to relax on a lounge chair on the sun deck while cruising around the Mediterranean.
There is not a lot of time to relax with a new port to visit every day. We only took half day excursions and enjoyed lunches in the outdoor dining rooms.
Beautiful pictures and as to where do I want to go no, where at the moment. I am happy at home with my son, my husband and our Dogs. Because by this time next year my son may have his own home and I will travel then. Because this year I want to create as many memories as I can with my son.
It sounds like you already have a great plan. We planned this vacation 18 months before the travel date. In the intervening time our daughter and granddaughter moved back to Canada from the UK. It is great to have them closer but the move kept us all busy for a while.
