Inside the Toronto Zoo is an aquarium with coral and tropical fish typically found in the Great Barrier Reef off of the east coast of Australia.

Just what is coral? Is it a plant, a mineral or an animal? Could it be all of those?

The Great Barrier Reef is home to about 475 species of tropical fish. A few of those are on display in the Toronto Zoo. The Ripley’s Aquarium is another great place to see some too.

They are much more interesting when you see them in motion. Did you know that the coral moves too, it is not just a sharp rock. They look best if you watch them in full screen mode by clicking on the square in the bottom right corner of the video player.
Sea Horses and Jellyfish are also on display in the aquarium of the Toronto Zoo. The sea horses are quite small and the jelly fish are best seen under the ultraviolet lights.

When the sea horse wants to take a rest it used its tail to hang on to weeds growing in the water so that it does not have to swim all of the time. That is how they sleep. There are many varieties of sea horse too.
I’ve always loved sea horses –
The moon jelly fish are some of my favorites at our aquarium
They are hard to get a good picture of.
Absolutely stunning video .I didn’t know corals were animal, plants and minerals.Very informative and enjoyable.
Thank you for the underwater excursion. We were fortunate to experience Australian coral reefs firsthand.
I find seahorses and starfish to be particularly fascinating creatures.
I was surprised at how far out the Great Barrier Reef is from the coast of Australia..
I’m always fascinated to see tropical fish and coral reefs. The sea horse is something that I’d like to see in person.
Look for them at an aquarium near you. Here is a link from a post I made about the ones I saw at the Ridley’s Aquarium in Toronto.
