Corsica bus trip

The excursion for the day took us into the mountains of Corsica. The scenic roads are narrow and are cut into the rock with switchbacks to climb the steep change in elevation. The pictures are from the roadside observation points. This first stop is to look into the Prunelli Gorge.

Looking uphill there is a cascade of water that barely creates a ripple in the pool after flowing under the road.

The Prunelli River flows into Lac de Tolla. It has a Hydro electric dam at the far end of the reservoir. The level of the reservoir changes over the year with the highest levels in the winter. This is because the highest rainfall is in the fall. Coming from a northern country, this is opposite to my experience of water levels being highest in the spring due to Spring runoff of melting snow. Although this is an island in the Mediterranean, it does have snow capped mountains in the winter. Skiing resorts in the mountains are open between February and April with the best skiing in March.

We were not the only ones admiring the countryside on an above average temperature day in early November. In the summer you might see paddle boats enjoying the water in the reservoir.
