On our first evening in Budapest, after checking into our room and eating a late lunch on the riverboat, Nancy and I went for a guided walking tour of downtown Pest.
The tour began on the romantic river walk at our door step (boarding ramp) in front of the Four Season Hotel. We walked along to the Chain Bridge and into the town. The lions watch the traffic between Buda and Pest.
From the Gresham Hotel, it is only a block to St. Stephen’s Bascilica. The streets are well maintained. Floods and wars have damaged many buildings but they are repaired and the city is very much alive.
Some buildings still show scars of WW II. Memories of artillery fire preserved in the stone.
At the end of the street, Saint Stephen’s Basilica is the focus but one of the city’s Christmas markets competes for attention.
There is no need to go hungry in Hungary. Bad pun? More on food in a later post.
Not everyone is happy with the new buildings that were built in the time of communism. They do not suit the old city style.
When the lights went on in Budapest, it was time to head back to the riverboat for supper and to see if my luggage had arrived.
Where do you go when the lights go on?
This looks like a wonderful trip! I love how you show the remnants of WWII and the lights of the riverboat. I can’t just share a few photos from my trips. I end up posting way too many. I’m heading over to read your post called, The Simple Life. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Hi Susie, You will enjoy the Simple Life. http://jarvie.ca/the-simple-life/
It is the extreme opposite of having too much or wanting more.
My solution to posting too many pictures is to compress them to a smaller size.
That way I have to spend time with each one and decide if it is worth it.
I also make several posts with a few pictures in each.
The lights in the river boat at dusk reminds me of paintings by Thomas Kinkade.
Thanks for your comment.
