Travelling up the fertile valley from the port town of Agaete, past the Maipés de Agaete, we saw where the fruits and grapes grow. At the Finca La Laja estate, one of Europe’s few coffee plantations, we were shown their wine cellar and treated to tastes of the locally produced coffee and wine.

Our local guide, one of the estate’s family members, told us about the fruit, wine and coffee produce here.

The frames over the walkway support wires which support the vines that grow over the walkway.

It looks like the oranges are doing well.

The coffee beans are in various stages of development.

The coffee beans are dried on racks in the warm dry air. But not everything is done completely by hand.

After tasting the wines and coffee we were sent on our way back down the hill to the bus. This was the highlight to the excursion.
