What happens on Garbage Day? Well, that is the one day a week that the town will send a truck down our street and empty the recycling bins and the composting bins. The garbage bins are only emptied every other week. The day for our street and neighboring streets in this area is Tuesday. The requirement is that the bins have to be out at the end of the driveway by 7:00 in the morning. Last year I had meetings at seven in the morning so I would put the bins out when I left for the meeting. Some mornings I would see the truck parked at the corner waiting to start their day. When I returned an hour later from the meeting, the bins had been emptied and I could bring them back into the house.
At seven in the morning in the winter it is still dark here. Now that meetings are on Zoom, the meeting time has been changed to later in the day. I happened to be home when they came by about quarter to ten. When the sun is shinning, it makes for a bright picture.
Sadly it does not stay sunny for the whole day and when I went out to take my camera for a walk at four o’clock in the afternoon, it was cloudy and the sun was going down. This is how it looked over the field. This is not the typical sunset photo.
The highlight of the day was watching the emptying of the recycle bins. How is it handled where you live?
I hear the garbage trucks in our subdivision around 6:30am but we take our trash to the recycling center. The highlight of a few days a week for us, going to the recycling center and saving a few dollars from curbside garage pickup. You know I’m frugal (or is it cheap) right? LOL
Hi Martha, I appreciate your comments and all of the posts you make each day whether there is a challenge on or not.
It is not frugal, it is magic to be able to squeeze some change out of a dollar bill.
Blog on!
Hi Doug…
our trash is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays. Also on Thursday, our recycle bin is picked up and emptied. They come around before 7:00 a.m. while the trash isn’t picked up until later in the day.
It interests me though when I look down our street how many people are ‘not’ utilizing the recycle option. After all, we all pay for it on our water bill…so why not use it? I have had this conversation with my daughter and son in law. They live in close proximity to us…hey have so many boxes that could be recycled, but don’t.
I suppose it’s more trouble than it’s worth…I’m constantly reiterating ‘what’ can go in the recycle bin I have set aside in the house and what cannot. I’d think, , they would get tired of me constantly nagging them about NOT putting their soda cans in the trash. It’s like a broken record…
Love the snow, by the way…where is this located?
This is in the warmer part of 🇨🇦 Canada, Southern Ontario.
It can get confusing to know what plastic can be recycled and what plastic cannot. Depending on who does the recycling styrofoam may or may not go in the blue box.
Coffee cups can be a big question too.
Today was garbage day for our street. We have one can for regular garbage. And we have a green can filled with gardening waste and food compost. We now alternate paper one week and bottles and cans the next. I feel your same joy when I can fill all my cans. I look forward to it as well!
