Our third port of call in Iceland is on the west coast. Gunderfjordur is on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and is the beginning point for a bus ride around its western tip. Kirkjufell mountain is at the end of the peninsula.
The orange and yellow tags are places where I took some pictures with my cell phone. The number on the tag indicates how many pictures I took. I also took GoPro videos and more pictures using a Canon T4i with a telephoto lens.
The excursion begins with a bus ride through the rain and the fog. The temperatures were around 10 celsius. Here is a video of the town streets and buildings.
You may have heard of Iceland’s largest city, Reykjavik. Gunderfjordur is to the northwest of it where the blue dot marks the spot.
Iceland is (well, most of Europe actually) one of my really should, must-visit places .. and there is so much to explore than the obvious .. now I know more about those thanks to your posts
Hi Doug,
It is interesting to see how many trees are planted along the street. Kids walking to school. It’s important, for me, to get past the stereotype of Iceland being all tundra, ice and no farmland. Thanks!
Surprisingly Greenland is the place with all the ice.
Remember these pictures were taken in the third week of September. The temperatures in the four ports we visited around the island were within a degree or two of ten celsius, just as they were in Copenhagen when we boarded the ship.
I think the temperatures were the same here in southern Ontario at that time.
