Guadeloupe Point

La Pointe des Châteaux

La Pointe des Châteaux is a peninsula that extends out into the Atlantic from the Guadeloupe commune of Sainte Francois. Our tour stopped here for a while so that we could appreciate the nature of this part of the island. I have selected some of my best photos to give you a sense of this island marking the border between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Holding its own against the waves, wind and hurricanes.

A nature preserve of some indiginous plants.
This peninsula is a little bald on top.
The island, La Dedirade, can be seen from the point.

The island, La Désirade, is known to have the oldest rocks in the Lesser Antilles.

The oldest rocks are at the left of the island.

The views from the cliff of the beach below are impressive.

Next we moved down to the beach to watch the waves from there.

Looking back up to the cross on the top of the cliff.

That was the end of our tour of the island and one of the highlights. The driver was in a hurry to get back to the port and the ship at Pointe-a-Pitre so when he drove past the airport he was really flying. The pictures I took were rather blurry.

Slow down I want to get a picture.
One of many airports on the islands.

  1. This looks like an incredibly idyllic place to visit. Right now, I would most like to go to Flagstaff to visit my parents. My second choice is San Francisco. Maybe after my son gets through his first year at UNLV, I will return to further adventuring.

(Part of my ten-year-vision plan includes traveling regularly.)

Your posts are always so inspiring!

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
