The Oceania Marina ship arrived just after dawn in La Goulette, Tunisia on the fifth day of our cruise. From here, at Tunis, the capital and largest city of Tunisia, we take a short excursion to learn more about this country in northern Africa.
Tunisia is located between Algeria and Libya with a large coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. France and Italy are its major trading partners helped by EU trade agreements.
Tunisian Arabic is the main language spoken but since 1991 when education became mandatory, Standard Arabic, French and English are taught. The country is about 30% rural and 70% urban.
These port buildings are new, built to be characteristic and representative of the history of the country.
Tourism is a significant part of the country’s economy so this port has provisions for managing that.
