Have you ever been to a Christmas Market? Do they have them near you? Do they set them up in the middle of November? In Lisbon, they were setting up their booths for the Christmas market on November 14, 2024. That was forty days before Christmas eve.
Here is a video of our drive-by. The tour guide pointed out a few other small details that I would not have noticed if I had not reviewed the videos for this post.
Since the city rises up quickly from the old city to the homes and businesses further up to the higher ground, two things have been built to make it easier for pedestrians to get up the hill, and also back down. The first of these is the elevator. The other is one of the three funicular trains.
While researching details for this post, I learned that there was a very serious accident on the funicular on September 4, 2025. Sixteen people were killed and twenty three others were injured. These people were from ten different countries.
