Lisbon monuments

Here are a couple more famous monument of Lisbon, Portugal. First is the Belem Tower. It is a 16th century fortification guarding the city from the riverfront. It was rather ineffectual.

If you take a walk up the ramp for a closer look you may be more impressed.

The second is the Monument of Discoveries. It was built as a temporary structure for the 1940 world exposition in Portugal. Then in 1960 it was rebuilt to honour the people who discovered the trade routes to other countries. Thirty two are characterized with Henry the Navigator standing at the prow.

Inside is a display chamber and a viewing platform near the top.
