What is growing in Obidos?

You will not believe what grows in Obidos in April. The flowers are doing well in the spring sun and rain, but there is something else.

The shops are very colourful as well.

Flowers are growing everywhere. On the stone walkways and steps,

and also on the walls of the buildings.

Now for the something else. What would you think if you walked into a restaurant and saw this?

If we look a little closer at the end, that does not help much.

There is an elaborate support in the center.

And this end has a big stone base and a screw to raise this end of the log.

Does it have something to do with the wine bottles around it? Was it a flag pole that is preserved here for some reason?
