Palermo is a port in the northwest of the island of Sicily. It is the capital of the autonomous region of Sicily with a metropolitan population around 1.2 million making it the fifth largest in Italy.
It has been a couple of days since the Oceania Marina ship has been docked in Sicily. Since then we have docked in Malta and Tunisia. Our previous Sicilian stop was in Messina in the North eastern tip of the island. The city is surrounded by a crescent of mountains.
We arrived as the sun was lighting up the city. The view was wonderful as we sat on the rear deck of the restaurant in one of the upper decks and scanned the city nestled in the arc of mountains. You can watch the video in full screen mode and think about having a balcony view of the Gulf of Palermo on the south of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The vertical format will give a larger view. Adjust your screen size to accommodate it.
For the next post we took a bus up to the top of Mount Pellegrino to visit the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia, the patron saint of Palermo. Mount Pellegrino is separate from the other mountain range, and is closer to the sea.
