Pearson Airport Reflections

Vacations often involve waiting at airports. People watching is a common pass-time, but sometimes there are interesting things going on outside of the airport. On a recent vacation in the Mediterranean Sea, I departed from the Pearson International Airport in Toronto (YYZ), and arrived at the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome. It is now referred to as (FOC), for the Fiumicino International Airport because it is in the Fiumicino suburb of Rome.

I am sharing a short video of the Pearson airport in the late afternoon as seen through the window of the gate waiting room. The reflections in the window are interesting because the lighting in the waiting room is brighter than the late afternoon light outside. The Air Transat plane was at the gate and you can see the jet bridge being moved into position. At first, I thought it was moving away from the plane so that it could leave; however, it was in fact the plane we were to board and the jet way was just repositioning for the smaller plane.

Overnight flights are a great way to travel on long trips to the east. From the video it is evident that it was dark when we took off for Rome.

  1. So this is the beginning of the trip you’ll be sharing with us this month? Awesome! I’ve never been to Rome, so I will look forward to seeing it through your eyes. Happy New Year!

      1. Welcome back to the UBC Doug! Your photos of Rome for the air are awesome! Looking forward to more of your trip.

  2. Airports are such amazing places and I agree… traveling at night is an excellent way to go. Not everyone agrees with us (my daughter, for example) but I find it much easier to get my bearings upon landing. I’m excited to follow along with your blog this time around!

    1. When flying to the west, I prefer the day flights, almost arriving at the destination earlier than when we took off. It is a great way to add hours to your birthday or New Year’s Day.

    1. Only in Rome for a short time. Actually took a coach to the ship from the airport and sailed away that evening. There were 19 stops in the 20 days.

  3. Many roads lead to Rome – a popular saying. It looks like you took the direct route with your flight. I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences in Italy, my neighboring country.

  4. Love the unique perspective in your reflections! The mix of lighting and window reflections at Pearson Airport adds such a calm, introspective vibe. Excited to see more insights from your travels!

  5. As someone with a history of travelling, I love reading about others’ trips. I have not been to Italy – and it is still on my bucket list. Safe Travels. Love your pics and video work.
