The city of Phuket is on Phuket Island in Phuket province of Thailand. Thailand’s largest island and most profitable province receives most of its income from tourists and rubber trees. It was once one of the popular stops on the trading route between China and India.
The western coast suffered extensive damage on December 26, 2004 when a tsunami caused by an earthquake in the Indian Ocean killed 5300 people in Thailand. Many more were killed in other parts of Asia. All of the buildings that were destroyed have been rebuilt.
The ship below looked to be riding a little low in the water. I am not sure what it is fitted out for but as it passed, it clearly does not have much free-board.
There are more than 30 beaches but some have been overused by tourists. The island is one of the worlds top tourist destinations and the town and beach at Patong are know for its wild nightlife.
Beautiful pics as always Doug:) Phuket is a dream at this time but someday
Thanks, Vidya. You know that “someday” is not on the calendar. The closest I have found is from the French, samedi.
