I started this post by researching the difference between lobsters, crayfish and crabs. Now I know that these pictures are lobsters. Lobsters come in a variety of colours. It is estimated that lobsters live up to 50 years. They have been a popular food source for over 100,000 years.
Lobsters are omnivores. The one above looks like it has a craving for fish at the moment.
The lobsters range in size from 10 to 20 inches (25-50 cm)
By contrast, the octopus is more intelligent but only lives less than a year. Males die only a few months after mating and the females shortly after their eggs hatch. The larger Pacific octopus can live up to five years.
A lot of research has been done on the octopus and scientists have learned a lot of interesting things about this mollusc. Recently laws have been enacted to restrict how these sentient animals, lobsters and octopus, are treated and killed for food. Just the beginning in our understanding that other life has a sense of feeling.
