St. Matthias Church
As our bus drives along Hunyadi János Way, we get an impressive view of the church and the beginning of the Fishermen’s Bastion.
As we walked up Tárnok Street, to Trinity Square, we saw this view of St. Matthias church.
On the left of the square is the Trinity Column, built around 1710-1713 at the end of the plague in hopes of preventing another epidemic. It was conveniently located in front of the old pharmacy shop.
The roof of St. Matthias Church is covered with a beautiful bright mosaic tile.
Inside the church there is a feeling of warmth and comfort from the earthy colours and lighting. Flash pictures bring out the blue accent colour.
In the back of the church is a large font, about 2 meters across.
All Catholic churches are filled with icons in honour of the many saints.
After viewing a small museum on the second floor, we get a view of the church interior from the balcony.
Next we spent some time looking at the wonderful views across the Danube to Pest from the castle like structure to the right called Fishermen’s Bastion.
