Summer in Canada is a great time to be outside. There are opportunities to get close to nature.
Boating is a great way to unwind from the busy week in the city. It always seems cooler on the water, but the sun reflecting off of the water can quickly burn unprotected skin. Fishing can be relaxing while waiting for the fish to bite, and water skiing or wakeboarding can be a fun way to get a good workout.
This summer I flew from Toronto to Winnipeg to visit some of my cousins. Winnipeg is the capital of the Province of Manitoba, and is near the center of the great country of Canada.
For the weekend I rented a car and drove from Winnipeg to the Lake of The Woods which is back in Ontario. It is only about 35 miles from the Ontario / Manitoba border and is on the Canada / USA border. The USA border actually juts up into the lake at an unusual angle called the Northwest Angle.
I carefully planned to reach the motel before dusk. Although the route is the major Trans Canada Highway, it is only one lane each way and deer wander across the road in the evening hours.
The deer wander through the towns, sampling the food growing in gardens and flower pots. They like the tender new growth of young trees as well.
