The prominent landmark overlooking Cape Town, South Africa is a “must-see ” tourist stop if you like views from high places.
In the photo below, the cables from the cable car are on the left, the pointy bit, next to the right is Lions Head peak and further right is Signal hill. Like a period at the end of a sentence, the white bagel in the upper right is the Cape Town stadium. Cape Town is in the lower right. The island at the top is Robbin Island where Nelson Mandella was held as a political prisoner from 1964 to 1982. Now it is a “living museum” where some of the tours are conducted by its former prisoners.
There are two popular ways to get to the top of Table Mountain. One is hiking, and the other is the cable car. The gondola of the cable car rotates slowly so that everyone gets a 360-degree view.
Who lives on top of Table Mountain? Well, these guys, the locals call them Dassies. They are a rock hyrax and although they resemble a guinea pig, they are related to elephants and sea cows (manatees).
What else can be seen up here? There are a lot of tourists and long lineups to get back down. some choose to walk back down to the parking lot.
The view of the coast and of the city are impressive.
We stayed in Cape Town for three days at our seagoing hotel docked beside the V&A harbour. It is a smaller ship but still visible from the top of the mountain.
What exquisite photos! Thanks for taking me with you to Table Mountain, even if just in pictures.
