Not to be confused with the Disney animated movie “UP”, this express train connects the city of Toronto train hub, aptly called Union Station, with the nearest International Airport called Pearson International. Hence the name UP. The train makes the trip in twenty five minutes, much less than taking your chances with road traffic through the city.
The chart above is not a map, it is not to scale and only indicates what rail services are in operation and what stops are on each line. The UP line is the shortest.
The UP Express train was leaving the station at the same time the train I was on was leaving. We were both heading west. The UP train was only tree cars long and moving a little faster than us. The following video is made up of three clips, and is not very long either.
The apartment buildings overlooking the train tracks are premium priced because they are also overlooking Lake Ontario, the eastern-most lake in the chain of Great Lakes.
By contrast, the Go train I was riding was made up of about 13 cars and they were double height cars, like in the picture below of one approaching the station from the west.
I’ve never seen a double height train! We don’t have trains where I live but someday I hope to take a train ride through the Great Smoky Mountains. Cool video!
Those pictures bring back memories at working in Chicago. I took the train for 7 years! I am happy to be working from home now! Where would I go?! I love the Amtrack vacations-but I have always wanted to visit Canada-maybe Montreal? That would be fun.
