Valletta sail away

This post include the videos of the Oceania Marina sailing away from Valletta, Malta to the North Africa country of Tunisia. Before we leave, I have a video of our guide telling us about the cars and population of Malta. It is very densely populated and about three quarts of the people own a vehicle.

Although the population density is so high, there is a lot of farm land around. There is a long growing season with lots of sun, but water is at a premium. I mostly falls in torrents in the winter months and runs off into the sea. In the summer when demand is high, there is almost no rain. Fresh water comes from underground reserves but desalinization facilities are required to meet the demand.

Family farms are about five acres in size and are not a commercial operation. The country is dependant on tourism and small manufacturing for its income and realizes that its greatest resource is manpower.

Back at the harbour, this video shows the unique character of the fortification of Valletta and the proliferation of small cars. The harbour road is narrow and a popular spot for many small shops.

Did you see the prominent cameo appearance of an Uber ride? The vertical format is required to get a better sense of the height of the walls at the harbour. It finishes with a section, from the front of the ship, of the ferry boats taking passengers across the channel to the safe harbour for small boats.

Finally, the video you have been looking for, the timelaps sail away from the port of Valletta, Malta. First from the port side of the ship and finally from the starboard side. You will notice that there is a lot of new construction of high rise apartment buildings to accommodate that high density of human potential.

To leave the harbour we travel between the two markers, one green and one red, that mark the ends of the breakwaters that keeps the water in the harbour calm.

One of these apartments could be yours.

  1. Loved this. look into Valletta.. such a cool fort town.. I remember visiting Obidos in Portugal years ago and it was a memorable visit for us

  2. I think if my family could go anywhere we might come here to visit after seeing everything you saw. Although, Hawaii is also on my wish list. How about you?

    1. Every island is different in Hawaii and in the Mediterranean . In the Mediterranean, the people and culture is different and there, history is evident.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
