There are not many places where you can walk through the valley created by the rift between two global tectonic plates. Iceland is one of those places because the Mid-Atlantic ridge cuts diagonally across the island.
The Mid-Atlantic ridge runs from the bottom left to the top centre of the satellite image above. The image below is a zoom-in of the north end of the lake where the orange tag is in the map above.
Are you ready to join the walk through the valley? I think the best way I can show it to you is with some videos.
Maybe you would like to see it in a vertical format to get a feel for the height of the wall. Adjust your screen if needed.
This is certainly a spectacular view, Doug. I wonder how I would have responded! Thanks for taking us along with you on your tour of this unusual phenomenon.
Doug, completely awesome! It blows my mind to even simply look at these images, let alone to imaging being there. Thanks!

I can totally understand the silence and the awe everyone must have felt here.. I know I will be dumbstruck too at this – not just the sights but also the significance of it..
Thank you for your posts
