Sometimes you do not get to see what is around you until you come back to it. For example, we were hustling out to get a good seat on the bus and missed the welcome sign. I grabbed this photo at the end of the day’s excursion.
The other reason I may have missed it was that there was this other impressive building that was definitely scraping the sky.
From the cruise terminal dock to the fun part of town required a bus ride. Our tour guide used the time to tell us a little bit about the city’s history.
The map below has marks showing how much of the city we saw in the four and a half hours we were on the excursion. The ship was docked at the uppermost orange marker. The bus took us to the first stop at the lowest two markers numbered 5 and 6. That was the Songdo Beach and Cloud Trail. Next was the Gamcheon Cultural Village (which should be called Colourful Village) at markers 3 and 11 on the left. Finally to the centre, marker 2, for the shopping at the fish market.
From the bus window, I was ready with the camera to catch some of the interesting murals on the buildings.
As the bus negotiated the expressways and bridges, we not only had an overview of the bay but managed to see our home away from home, the Diamond Princess, in the dock on the far side of the bay.
After lunch, back on the ship, I used the vantage point of the upper decks to take some more photos of the port.
This was a great location to take a video of the bay. It is amazing to me that such a large city is built up all around the bay but does not extend very far up the hill behind the city.
This next video gives a closer view using a different lens.
After leaving Busan I watched the sun hide behind an island. Because the ship was moving, the sun did not appear to go straight down but slid down the slope of the hill. Peeking out as if keeping an eye on the ship as it sailed away.
