Osaka, Japan

Osaka was one of the ports on our itinerary but we did not see much of it because it was the port closest to Kyoto which we also wanted to visit. The excursion we chose took us from Osaka to Kyoto.

I did take some photos from the upper deck before the bus left. The eye-capturing dome was built in 2000 and opened as a Marine Museum. Unfortunately, interest dwindled and it closed in 2013. It stands alone in the bay with water all around it. The only access is through a submerged tunnel.

There are so many different styles of bridges connecting the islands to each other.

On an adjacent island is Universal Studios Japan. I could see parts of it under the bridge.

In collaboration with Warner Brothers, Hogwarts Castle was built as part of the theme park. A Legoland is also nearby.

It is a very busy harbour so there are lots of boats around to keep an eye on us and help if needed. There was a tug or two standing by if needed.

Just so you get a sense of the openness of this city, here is a short video from the bus window.

You may recall that Osaka has hosted international events in the past. Do you know that it will be hosting the 2025 World Expo? One of the islands near the port has already begun constructing a space for the pavilions. Have you ever been to a world expo?

  1. That maritime museum looks out of this world!
Hogwarts Castle is something I would love to explore..
As for those rides, I will let others swirl and twirl,
and take pics of bridges and people from the floor!!

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
