Let me introduce you to the major exporting port of South Korea. Busan, previously called Pusan, is the second-largest city after Seoul. It has a population of three and a half million and eight million if the metropolitan area is included. (That is larger than Toronto, the largest city in Canada and the fourth-largest city in North America.)
South Korea hosted the 1988 Summer Olympic Games, and the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, and co-hosted with Japan, the 2002 World Cup Finals. Major exports are semiconductors (Hynix), automobiles and parts (Hyundai and Hankook Tires), and consumer Electronics and appliances (Samsung and LG Electronics). You may recognize some of those brands.
In spite of the fact that this country has to import its petroleum and iron raw materials, it has a positive trade balance with exports exceeding purchases from other countries. Note, tourism is counted as an export.
Facts and figures do not give a very memorable impression and pictures help, but I have made a two-minute video of the morning sail into one of the harbours to give you a better sense of this modern thriving city. <You may be able to view it in full-screen mode.>
Gorgeous images! I’ve always wanted to visit South Korea!
More posts on South Korea are coming soon.
While you are there you might as well visit Japan too
