Castellroig Winery Tour
The second stop on our trip from Valencia to Barcelona was as delightful as the first. The sun was still shining, the views were spectacular, and we were treated to food and wine after a very interesting tour of the wine museum and production. Castellroig is an award-winning family-owned winery in the Catalan region of Spain. It has not only received awards and certifications from the vintners of the region but also the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor for delivering excellent tours.
The tour began in the gift shop and dining room.
Wine is still kept in barrels and bottles until ready for shipment.
Stainless steel tanks are part of a more modern operation.
What comes to your mind when you hear the words wine and pallet? Probably not this.
Eventually, most of the wine is shipped around the world.
After the dust and sediment have been removed from the bottles and the wine, this mechanical monster adds the labels and seals the top.
Finishing the factory tour, we moved out into the courtyard to sample a few varieties of the wine and a little local food. The sunshine and scenery were a nice touch too.
The sparkling wine of this region is called cava. It is represented by the sculpture at the side of the road. This winery has recently incorporated the butterfly into its brand logo.
Here are a couple more pictures of the countryside before boarding the bus.
While we motor on to Barcelona, Montserrat watches us from a distance.
Look at all of the places this family serves.
This trip looks like a lot of fun.I have never visted a winery .Loved the pictures.A perfect virtual tour.
It is interesting that most wineries also have olive oil products too.
I’m not that familiar with Spanish wine (a tad more familiar with Portuguese). That looks like an amazing winery to visit. Beautiful grounds, too. Reminds me a little of a winery in upstate New York (Great Western) that has been in business since around 1860 and has a lot of hidden treasures only seen on tours. I think I would enjoy this tour immensely, especially after reading up a little on Cava.
There is so much more to see around the Barcelona area. It is a great place for a spring vacation when winter never seems to leave upstate New York.
