One of my most remembered excursions was to Godafoss Falls in the northern part of Iceland. It is about a 45-minute drive from Akureyri. Not one of the largest or most powerful, but the most spectacular. Think of a model-sized version of the horseshoe falls at Niagara Falls. It drops about 40 feet and is about 100 feet across.
The nickname for the falls is “Waterfalls of the Gods”. There is a legend that says in the year 1000, a respected leader of the time made the decision to convert the country to Christianity. to show his determination he took all the statues of his Norse Gods and threw them into the falls.
It is hard to capture it all in a photo so I have made a couple of videos.
There is a bridge over the river and hiking trails around the falls area.
The next video is captured from the lookout at the top of the falls.
Oh my! These are so very pretty Doug.. I am totally enjoying my travels through your posts.. Iceland is a must-must-visit someday soon
