Akureyri Morning

On the northern coast of Iceland is a port called Akureyri. It is the fifth-largest community on the island and the largest in the northern region. At 65 degrees north latitude, it is only one degree south of the arctic circle. In spite of that, it is an ice-free port. Here are some pictures of the morning light at 7:10 AM on September 19, 2022.

These first pictures were taken from the Island Princess. My excursion for the day started early, by 9:00 A.M. I was on the bus to see the interesting parts of northern Iceland. Please join me as I share some of what I saw.

Views from the balcony and views from the bus.

It is difficult getting good pictures in low light from a moving bus but here are a couple of my better attempts.

You do not have to take a ship to get to Iceland, they have their own airline which is expanding the number of airports they are servicing. I just learnt that they are offering completion to Canadian airlines in delivering flights from Canada to European cities.

    1. There are a lot of lakes if you want more than to dip your toe in the ocean. Stay away from the hot sulfur pools, they are boiling hot.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
