The excursion from the Port of Seydisfjordur on the eastern coast of Iceland to the Hengifoss Cascades, was by bus and was a great way to see the landscape. It was my first time in Iceland so it all looked different. We had to travel through the mountain pass to get to Lake Lagarfljot. These videos and pictures are from the return trip.
The lake is on the left and the road travels along the side of the lake up to the highway intersection at Egilsstadir. Our choice for a comfort stop. The next leg of the journey was to the east through the mountain pass to Seydisfjordur. The lake is about 60 feet above sea level but even with the pass through the mountains, we climbed to 2000 feet above sea level before starting the descent back down to the port.
Happy sheep with lots of green grass and hay bailed for winter.
The short break at Egilsstadir was welcomed. It is a thriving town of 2,464 people with several hotels, an airport and some churches.
I am sure I saw a golf course along the way. Are you on a quest to golf at as many different locations as possible?
Thanks for the tour of Iceland, Doug. Very interesting and rugged landscape.
A friend tells me it reminds her of Newfoundland.
