Japan has been hosting the Diamond Princess for many years. The Princess Cruise line decided that one of their ships should be dedicated to cruising around Japan. They fitted it out with Sushi Bars and a Japanese speaking staff. My first trip on the Diamond Princess was in 2015 before all that was implemented and the ship was doing a 28 day cruise in the South Pacific. It was basically a cruise around the Islands of Australia and New Zealand. It is a beautiful ship and I particularly like the SkyWalker lounge at the back of the ship that sticks out on both side like an air spoiler an the back of a racing car. From there, It is possible to see down the side of the ship and on rough days, You can see how much the front of the ship rises and falls in the waves and swells of the ocean.
My most recent cruise was in April of 2023. I was participating in the Ultimate Blog Challenge at that time and posting some of the sights from that trip while I was aboard. I was not able to post every day but I did gather more pictures than I could share in the rest of that month. This month, you will see more of those pictures that I am reviewing now.
It is a long flight from Canada to Japan so we stayed in the Nikko Narita hotel near Tokyo to adjust for jet lag and allow for possible delays. The trip had originally been booked for April 2020 but the Diamond Princess was not allowed to leave Japan for a few years. No one planned for that long of a delay. You can see my post about the hotel at this link:
Transportation from the hotel to the port was an option that could be added to the cruise package, so we chose the easy reliable option. I have some videos of the bus trip that I might include in a later post. This is the ship waiting for us to board.
The port is set up for cruise ships and all of the space and transportation needed to make it work smoothly.
The bus can only take us so far, from here we have to walk. Don’t forget your carry on, the crew will bring your big bags to your cabin.
i definitely need to plan for a cruise sometime.. that is something we have not done yet.. and your posts tempt me to go shopping
Thanks for the comments. Choose a country you would like to visit and choose a cruise that stops at one of its ports.
