Yakcheonsa temple in Seogwipo, Jeju, South Korea, is recorded as the largest Buddhist Temple in East Asia. It is relatively new, built in 1980 in the old style. The temple grounds occupy 30 acres of land on the south shore of Jeju Island.
While the temple and the Buddha statues are the main features of the site, this post will show some of the other buildings and the gardens surrounding the pond.
When you are in the temple courtyard, this is what you will see if you turn around and look back at the entrance and the two towers.
Like many countries, Korea has a war memorial. The one located on these temple grounds honours the Korean victims of the South Pacific War. Japan occupied Korea in 1910 and mobilized Koreans to support and fight in WWII.
Finding a place to get a good picture of the temple took a while. I am happy with this one.
The roof construction certainly says Buddhist Temple.
The stairs are guarded by a dragon.
