Jeju Buddhist Temple

Unlike many other temples, this one is brightly lit. On display is Korea’s largest Vairocana Buddha and 18,000 smaller Buddhas. There is seating space for more to be added.

Sitting facing the entrance, is an impressive first view inside the temple

Several dragons watch over the gallery below and protect the Buddhadharma.

On the sides of the main alter are other alters. On the right,

and on the left.

The Temple has three floors and a basement. From the upper floors, the balcony overlooks the main gallery.

Candles are the symbol of light and wisdom. They are brought as an offering to Buddha as are flowers, and incense. With so many candles it is a wise practice to keep a fire extinguisher near by. At the back of the balcony there are many Buddhas watching over the candles. Do you think one of them is a fire marshal?

Did you see the elephants supporting the display case?

    1. Did you know that not all statues of Buddha are in the sitting position. Some statues, and some very large ones, are of Buddha reclining.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
