Lindos is a town on the Greek Island of Rhodes. Rhodes is also a city on the northern tip of the Island of Rhodes. Lindos is located 40 kilometres south of the city of Rhodes on the eastern side of the island. It has some similarities to Athens. It has an Acropolis with the ruins of a temple on the top of a hill overlooking the city. It also has a connection with the apostle Paul.
Lindos was founded in the tenth century BCE. It is strategically located for trade between the Greeks and the Phoenicians. The temple was dedicated to Athena Lindia around 300 BCE.
Lindos was a fishing village, then a major trading centre, then in the 14th century AD, a fortified city for the Knights of St. George to defend against the Ottomans.
Your pictures remind me of my cruising days. I enjoyed some marvelous adventures. Athens was certainly one of the memorable places I visited. Thanks for the memories.
