Mount Fuji, Japan

A vacation to Japan would not be complete without a sight of Mount Fuji. It can be elusive and sometimes hides in the clouds. Fortunately, when we were at the observation site, it was peaking above the clouds. It was a rather hazy day but thanks to the power of post-processing, I was able to get a presentable picture or two.

The Diamond Princess docked at Shimizu in Shizuoka Prefecture. That is the red #3 tag on the map below. Our excursion bus took us up to the observation deck at the top of the hill, the orange tag. From there we could see over the nearby range of hills to the peak of Mount Fuji. It is marked by a green flag in the middle of the map. For reference, Tokyo and Yokohama are in the top right corner. We were looking at it from about 50 kilometres away.

The observation deck is very close to the communication tower for the region.

Since this is a popular tourist spot, it is designed like a park with beautiful gardens and souvenir shops and restaurants.

Hello from Japan, only fifty kilometres from Mount Fuji.

  1. What a breathtaking sight – the epic beauty of Mount Fuji! The peak appears to be embracing the sky and marvelously suspended in space. Thanks for giving me a glimpse of this majestic sight.

  2. Oh my, the first picture is just breathtaking! What gorgeous flowers and cool communication tower! Thank you for taking us along on your tour once again.

  3. How lovely, a beautiful background to any picture!
I love in Oregon, and the Japanese Gardens in the West hills of Portland take full advantage of the views of our Wy’East (Mount Hood)

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
