Shimizu, Japan

Shimizu is about 100 miles or 160 kilometres from Tokyo, and about 32 kilometres from Mount Fuji. The Diamond Princess docked around dawn and was scheduled to leave at 3:00 PM. This was the port with the excursions to see Mount Fuji.

The first question was could we see the mountain from the ship? Here is the answer, the first picture I took that day.

The sunrise on the mountain peak.

The busses were leaving early so I did not take many pictures around the port until the busses returned before 2:00.

That was when I noticed that like many cities around the world, there is a Ferris Wheel. I also noticed solar panels set up to convert the sun’s rays into electric power.

The harbour is a fun place to be.

The harbour is busy with industrial activity as well as tourism. Ships with rice or other grains to fill the silos. Jay Oil is a mill producing many kinds of oil.

On the top of the hill, you may see a communication tower which was the location where I took photos for the previous post.

Across the bay, another cruise ship is docked in the harbour

The big cruise ship attracts the attention of other pleasure craft in the bay.

Soon after boarding, the Diamond Princess left the dock with a tug or two standing by to help if needed. It seldom is.

  1. When my sister studied in Japan many years ago, her stories influenced me to add that country to my bucket list. Somewhere along the years that have passed, Japan got pushed further and further down my list of places to visit. Your pictures just revived that desire. Thanks for sharing your visual experiences there.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
