Nanshan

Nanshan Cultural Resort

A popular tourist spot about 25 miles from Sanya on Hainan Island.

Nanshan Temple

This temple was completed in 1988. A replica of the Buddhist design, it commemorates 2000 years of Buddhist history in China.

With the sun at my back and looking back to the entrance, the bright yellow spring colours suggest the “enlightenment” of the Buddhist belief. The walkway leads straight to the  350 foot Guanyin Statue of  Hainan who’s three faces watch over the land and out to the South China Sea.Looking into the morning sun, the walkway leads to the statue which stands on an island at the end of the bridge.

The next few pictures are arranged in a gallery collection that plays like a slideshow. Wait until the few pictures cycle through. This group shows the landscape changing from the beautiful beach up to the lush green mountains.

We took a break at one of the vegetarian restaurants near the temple.

After a lengthy tour through the park, we rested,  gathered together and waited for the tram to take us back to the bus. The final stop was the Pearl Museum.

Inside the Pearl Museum, this delicate piece of art called out to me to have its picture taken. Everything was behind glass, in display cases, so it was difficult to get a great picture without reflections. Thanks to the Google Earth team, here is a satellite view of the cultural center, the beach, and the statue on its island in the South China Sea.

  1. that statue is so beautiful – the face so serene.. thank you for letting me travel to places i might end up adding to my already big list of to visit places

  2. Nanshan Cultural Resort looks like a beautiful spot to visit – the statue which stands on an island at the end of the bridge reminds me somewhat of the Statue of Liberty. I love how ornate the details are on the statues and walkways throughout the park – Google Earth is incredible how they make that look 3D!

    1. I will be doing some real travelling this month to take more pictures for a later challenge. I’m not sure how well I will be able to keep up with the travelling internet connections.

  3. OMG, the photos are breathtaking Doug! I especially like the inside of the Nanshan Temple. Looking forward to traveling with your blog this month!

  4. Wow love this little snippet of your travels! You really make me wanna explore a little more (though I need to save some vacation time). I hope to travel to Asia soon! I’m interested in the different foods and sights!

    1. Hi Lynn. I just returned from an ”Insight Tour” of the best of Spain and Portugal. Food was an important and interesting part of that tour. The variety within the four main regions of Spain, and the diversity of Portugal makes for an interesting food journey. Dining to a live Flamenco or Fata performance rounds out the evening.

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
