Niagara Falls
Back in 2004, my cousin, Dorothy, travelled from Winnipeg to Toronto for a vacation. She stopped in to visit my brother and took him for a few day trips around the Toronto area while I was busy at work. Fortunately for me, she took some wonderful pictures and shared them with me. Now I am going to share them with you.
Let’s start with a view to the south where the Niagara River brings water out of Lake Erie, drops it over the falls with a thunderous roar and a misty microclimate, then flows on northward into Lake Ontario.
The closest bridge to the falls is called the Rainbow Bridge. Since the mist is always there, the rainbow shows up whenever the sun visits. This Bridge is one of the many bridges between Canada and the United States.
The Niagara River divides above the falls and flows around each side of an island that stands sturdily in the path of the water. This creates two waterfalls. The straight American Falls to the north and the curved Horseshoe Falls to the south.
The very popular Maid of the Mist tour boat motors up to the base of the falls and turns around so that the tourists get equally wet on all sides. All passengers are issued matching blue plastic rain ponchos that help keep most of the water off of their clothes.
Let me introduce my wonderful cousin Dorothy who took these pictures,
and my big brother Herb. There is a modern Casino Hotel near the falls where you can stay to see more of the many attractions in the Niagara area.
I live really close to Niagara Falls and one of the most exciting discoveries that I’ve made is of Three Sisters Island, which is about as close to the rapids as you can ever get. It is a really impressive sight to see the water swirling as it gets closer and closer to the precipice of the falls! It’s beautiful in all seasons. In late fall and early spring, it’s amazing to see the various bird species just standing still amidst all of that rush and roar of the swirling waters!
I just saw a news article this evening about how busy the rescue teams are in the Niagara region with helping people who get careless when they visit the river.
So beautiful. This is definitely on my bucket list to see one day!
Hi Tammy Thanks for the comment. Remember, one day is not a day on your calendar. Neither is some day. The closest I have found is Samedi on a French calendar.
Why beautiful photos and memories of when we use to live in upstate NY and hubby and I would take a drive over to the falls.
