How does a community get a name like Shortstown? That was the question that came to my mind as my wife and daughter were going for a walk this evening after dinner. (That’s them on the right.)
Could it be because of the fields of feed grain crops (shorts) grown in the surrounding farms? Here is a picture of the ripe field at sunset.
Maybe it is the film studio available for creating short videos.
What is your guess?
More likely, it is because of the Shorts Brothers Engineering Company that built Air Ships for the first world war. Imagine, the size of the air ship you can build is limited by the size of the building you have to build it in. The little glints of light in the center of the picture below the white signs if front of the building is from car windshields reflecting the setting sun.
How big are they? They enclose 5 acres. Look for the two blue trucks in the bottom left.
Did you see the old WWI truck and tanks?
The hangers are being restored, and re-purposed for film sets. Here you might find Batman’s not so secret studio. The sets for some of the Batman films were here.
How would you like that in your back yard? Do you think they would make good neighbours?
A Google search will yield more information.
