We arrived in Alesund under a cloudy sky and looked out at the town from the port where the Island Princess was docking. I took a few pictures from the ship before my excursion began.
Just to give you a sense of where Alesund is, it is under the orange box marked 100. We travelled overnight from Haugesund to Alesund a distance of about 300 miles northward up the coast. Between Norway and the Faroe Islands and a little to the south are the Shetland Islands of Scotland. That was to be our destination for the next day.
Below is a picture I borrowed from Google Earth. The ship was docked on the far left and the excursion took me on a walk through the town and out to the lighthouse at the end of the spit near the centre of the picture.
The map below shows the places I stopped to take pictures and how many I took at each location.
Notice the white building prominently clinging to the top of the hill. It is a restaurant with an amazing view. I did not hear any comments about the quality of the food.
I see a path zigzagging its way up the side of the hill. I think there must be a road up to the top to make food deliveries.
That restaurant up the hill makes sure that people coming to it have huge appetites!! Loved the pics as always and that map of where you took photos and how many too
