Obi Castle is in the town of Obi in Nichinan, Miyazaki, Japan. I describe it as up the hill from the Aburatsu port. If are in Miyazaki, Obi can be reached by bus or train.
If you don’t have a good picture, you might find what you want on google maps, like I did for this picture of the castle gateway.
After walking through the castle gate, there is a long stairway to get up to the castle square.
Cedar forests are the source of materials for many of the buildings.
Some older trees need support.
If you visit in the spring, the cherry blossoms are beautiful. Not all of the buildings are from the 1500s.
And not all of the trees are cedars.
From the castle there is a lovely view of the surrounding hills of cedar trees. If you look carefully, parts of the hill look bare, probably because the cedar trees that were there have been cut and taken down to the port and sold.
The building is laid out with the rooms in a line down the centre and hallways or veranda ways along each long side of the castle. The next post will show some of the inside rooms.
Spring is such a beautiful time to visit when the flower buds are beginning to open.
I would have loved to visit Obi Castle. Seems like you’ve visited places I didn’t get to in Japan. Will you be stopping in Hiroshima?
Yes, we did stop in Hiroshima and Nagasaki too. There are a few stops that i will not have time to post in this challenge but They will probably show up in later posts.
Stay tuned in.
I will look forward to more of your travels, Doug.
