Aburatsu Port

On the east side of the southern tip of Japan is a quiet port with a cruise ship terminal. It is a great place to stay while you see some of the nearby points of interest or relax on the sandy beaches on the eastern coast.

It was a beautiful sunny morning when we tied up at the dock on the 29th of March 2023

They were ready on the dock to welcome us. Not a big commercial affair, just an ad-hock collection of vendors and some tour buses waiting to whisk us away on our excursions.

The forest industry uses this port to export cedar timbers that are harvested in the nearby mountains. The cage keeps some of the ceder bark from the logs from blowing around the dock and confines the area where the logs are stored in the time between being brought in and shipped out.

It’s a lovely country for camping, there are two sights near the dock. Any place that has a 7-eleven must be a civilized place.
