Sailboats in Alesund’s Harbour

One of the harbours of Alesund, Norway contains many vintage sailboats. The harbour entrance is marked by an old red lighthouse. The light house is not very tall but it does mark where the end of the dock juts out into the bay.

I remember hearing a pleasure boat described as a hole in the water that the owner keeps pouring money into.

Can you imagine going out into the North Sea or the Norwegian Sea to catch fish in a boat like this? For a size reference, look at the three people standing on the dock to the right.

The view from the lighthouse.

Can you believe this? The 150 year old lighthouse is completely round on the inside but only three meters across. Less than 10 feet. There is an upstairs bedroom and a bathroom on the main floor. You can rent it as one of the rooms available from the Hotel Brosundet.

I estimate this lighthouse is four door-heights tall.

Looking down the harbour towards the city.

Looking across the channel to the other side of the harbour.

Looking at the islands to the north.

It could get lonely out there at the end of the dock.

I know I will be more comfortable on this bigger ship that is docked on the other side of the island-town.

  1. those boats look so pretty though I don’t think my seasick body will want to go on them anywhere 🙂 and that lighthouse is cute (though too small a hotel room for me to consider it)

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
