Valencia CAS

Valencia, the city of the arts and sciences.

Valencia has developed a whole new district dedicated to the arts and sciences. At the northwest corner is the Reina Sofia building for modern opera and the Berklee Valencia Campus for music. On the other side of the expressway that crosses the park is a building containing the Imax Theatre. Beside that is the Umbracle, housing modern sculpture. At the end of the Imax is the Museum of Sciences. Moving southeast, across another expressway is the Agora building. It is a multi use building to host events, conferences and exhibitions. All of the bottom right corner is the Oceanografic center with Europe’s largest Aquarium.

After checking into our hotel, we had about half an hour to walk around. The hotel was just off of the top of the map near the expressway on the left. In that time, my wife and I were able to walk across the expressway bridge near the campus, beside the south side of the Imax near the modern sculptures, under the rightmost expressway and back to the hotel through the park. We will have to go back for a visit to the aquarium and Oceanographic park.

Our first views of the opera from our hotel. The gray background gives it an unsettling appearance.

The end view looks like a Star Wars helmet.

Does this look like fun to you?

Walking under the expressway, trusting suspension cables at top center.
A view if the suspension cables and the Agora on the other side of the expressway bridge.

We returned through the park, taking pictures all the way, and thought about the warm spring afternoon and the ability to lay down on the grass, look up at the clouds and think about the music, the science, or whatever images the sky projects.
