Loch Ness

Loch Ness is the largest fresh water lake in Great Britain by volume. It is twenty three miles long and almost 790 feet deep. The depth varies so much that there is not much vegetation growing on its banks. About seven hundred square miles of land drain into the loch and it’s outlet is the River Ness.

Drumnadrochit is the name of the village where Nessieland attracts tourists. It has lots of accommodations for those who want to stay more than a day to explore the countryside and the loch.

Have a look around and see if there is anything you like.

We visited on a Saturday and it was Market on the Green Day.

Although the streams and rivers flowing into the loch are clear, the water in the loch is dark and murky because of the peat at the bottom. Our tour bus stopped by the side of the road so we could get out and look at the famous loch. The only thing we saw on the surface of the water turned out to be a tour boat.

Is there a monster in the loch? You may have to visit, talk to the locals, and see for yourself.

  1. Oh wow, how awesome is that? I am sure that there’s a monster underneath those deceivingly still waters!!! It’s camera shy, unfortunately; Otherwise, there would have been many images of it.

    Blog on!!!

  2. Beautiful area! I have to admit, I have never heard about the village or the surrounding area, only “Nessie” – too bad they didn’t show up!

  3. Doug, you are the first person to ever show me images looking *toward* the buildings. Usually we see vistas out across the Loch. I love seeing Nessieland! But really, I would love to see Nessie! Sometimes my favorite British shows will do something that involves Loch Ness, and I love it.Thanks!

Thanks for looking at the pictures. Tell me what you liked, or didn't.
